My artistic practice isn’t confined to a medium, but rather to the understanding of what truly gives an image authenticity and what effect it has on the space it is in. In my paintings, I use mainly acrylic but support it with different materials and effects to give the molten plastic a timeless quality. This process is also present in my photoshops where I try to illustrate thoughts and demarcate the feelings and liminal spaces they produce in me.
As a person with schizoaffective disorder, I have found that psychosis is something important that I want to share and communicate about using my work. A lot of the work in this exhibition was created during this difficult period of my life, in which I often craved peace, an absence of voices and a harmonious space that would be healing to me rather than seeming like it would cause the world to fall apart. These feelings are still relevant to me, but I mostly use them as guidance to create a pleasant space for the viewer of my work to reside in.
Amelia did an Art Foundation at Bournemouth University and is currently pursuing a degree in Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art.
