The theme of my work comes from my part time job at a greengrocer where I have been working for 5 years. What could be seen as a mundane job and a standard work environment has been an important part of my life and also the main inspiration for my art practice. This series of acrylic paintings is based on the arrangements of produce, created by my colleagues, for display in the shop.

To begin the process of making the paintings I take photographs of fruit or vegetables that I find intriguing. Whether it has been thoughtfully arranged by a colleague or disorganised by the customers, it may be misshapen or dirty or the most perfect thing, the main focus is always the interesting details that can be found in the produce.

To reflect the time and effort that it takes to prepare and arrange the produce in the shop, I choose to translate my photographs into hyper realistic paintings. It is my way of conveying the appreciation I have for my job and the joy that the small things in life, such as fruit and vegetables, can bring us.
